Career Counseling

The economy over the past year has made career counseling more important than it has been in decades.  Many organizations are downsizing, while others are closing completely.  Studies in the past have shown that before a person retires, a career shift will likely have occurred at least three times over the person's adult lifespan.  With the unemployment rate at rates higher than it has been in decades, these career shifts may not be voluntary, but may be decisions thrust upon employees with little to no warning.  Career counseling can help get people through tough times, assisting them in exploring other career fields and the training and education required to establish a new direction in life. Career counseling does not simply help people transition to new career fields, but also assists those seeking to progress vertically within the organization in which they serve.  As such, organizational development is an integral part of the career counseling focus.

We work with people from all walks of life, from labor workers to corporate executives.  The counseling approach varies by the client served, but generally include the completion by the person being counseled of one or more interest inventories.  These may include the Strong Interest Inventory, the Kuder Occupational Interest Inventory, or others.  In fact, there are several free introspective self-assessment interest inventories linked to our client support website..  Other tests may include cognitive ability tests of the clients.

Once the client has identified the career track desired, research compiled by the U.S. Department of Labor presented in the Occupational Outlook Handbook provides a forecast of the hiring trends, projected salary ranges, and education / training required for the individual to enter and succeed in the field. Let us know if we can assist you or your organization.  Please send e-mail to support@counselingconnection.us
