Explore Where You May Stand Toward Degrees: Free for Students

Our state-of-the-art degree exploration system, the DegreeQuest System (DQS), has thousands of degrees.

Discover Which Degrees Are Right For You to Consider

The focus of the degrees that are in the DegreeQuest System (DQS) are those which can be completed at a distance, anytime, anywhere. After all, of the 18.2 million students in college in America, more than 7 million are adult learners over the age of 25, of which, more than 4.6 million are pursuing degrees online. That's nearly 2 out of every 3 adult learners pursuing degrees are doing so online and, since our focus is on helping adult learners earn degrees, DegreeQuest is perfect for them. (Keep in mind, if you prefer to take courses in a classroom, rather than at a distance, most of our participating colleges and universities have campuses with thousands of students, as well.) With hundreds of colleges and universities offering thousands of degrees at a distance across the nation, how can you discover which ones are right for you to consider? This degree exploration system from the National College Counseling Center is designed to help you make the right decision.

How It Works

First, students build into the DQS an electronic education record with every potential source of college credit they have earned in the past (including college courses in transfer, credit for military training and experiences, credit for professional training at corporations and government agencies, college credit by examinations, credit for professional licenses and certifications, and more). The DQS then merges the credit earned by the student into the curricula requirements of degrees from participating colleges across the nation in the subject desired by the student. The system is absolutely amazing to see - in just seconds, the curricula requirements of degrees are populated by the credit earned by the student in the past, then the listing of degrees is re-arranged to place the best options for consideration at the top of the lists. If you are using the free self-service degree exploration support from the National College Counseling Center, several of the colleges and universities in which your credit fit well into their curriculum requirements may log into the DQS and create detailed degree plans to send to you for consideration. (For those who have chosen to subscribe to Gold Level Support, the staff at the National College Counseling Center will create the detailed degree plans and go over them with them in detail in a webinar.) Keep in mind, the information presented on the degree plans is unofficial, pending your admission to their institution, receipt of official transcripts, and review and approval by the Registrar of the college. This support enables prospective students to identify those colleges and universities that would likely minimize loss of credit in transfer and offer curricula of their degrees that would maximize the application of the credit they deserve for their adult learning experiences. Know before you go ... Make an informed decision before you matriculate.
